Don’t get me wrong, my dogs wear a leather dog collar for everyday use. The dog choke collar or prong collars are used only during training. If the look of a prong collar concerns you there are dog collars prong with leather or nylon protection wraps.
There are many different training collars and the best one for your dog depends on the training your friend needs and the methods you want to use for training sessions.
There are fur saver collars that won’t pull the dog’s fur out.

Please measure the width of your dog’s neck and add 2 to 3 inches to determine an appropriate collar length.
Fur saver size: 20 inch (50 cm)
Fur saver size: 21 inch (54 cm)

Please measure the circumference of your dog’s neck and head in the widest place. Compare neck and head sizes and add 1-2 inches to bigger size to determine an appropriate collar length.
For Example: your dogs neck around 20 inches and head around (in the widest part) 22 inches. You should add 1-2 inches to bigger – head size in this case and choose 23 or 24 inches size collar.
Dog pinch collar are good training collars but not for all dogs. I had a very soft touch Sheltie that yelped with the use of a prong – pinch collar. It doesn’t hurt the dog but some dogs can’t handle the sensation of the pressure all around their neck.
Estimate sizes for prong collars:
dog collar size:9 links,16 inch
dog collar size: 10 links,21 inch
dog collar size: 10 links,23 inch
dog collar size: 10 links,25 inch

To put a choke collar on your dog:
Drop the chain through one ring of the collar. Hold the collar open in your hand with the loose end hanging down. The collar should look like the letter P. Holding it like this place the collar on your dog where the P runs down the right leg. That means the l part of the P will be in line with the dogs right leg. It is important to put the collar on correcting so it tightens and releases without “choking” your dog.
