Dog Food Ingredients
Reading Dog Food Labels
I’ve had Shelties for over 20 years. My last female passed away last year at the age of 18-years-old. How I fed her had a lot to do with the fact that she was never sick and died at home of natural “old age” 15 days after her 18th birthday.
Dogs, just like humans, are what they eat. As a dog lover, you might want to know exactly what you are feeding your pet.
The ingredient list provides all of the ingredients found in a specific dog food. All dog and cat foods must list their ingredients in order by weight. By law, every ingredient must be listed separately either by its official name or common name.
Be sure to read all of the ingredients at the end of the listing to know if any artificial preservatives or coloring are used. If a dog food is manufactured in a country other than where it is sold, the statement will be accompanied by “Product of” stating the country of origin.

Dog food labels have to include the guaranteed analysis, which shows the guaranteed amounts of specified nutrients in the product. The values listed in the guarantee are given as maximums and minimums and they’re not the actual values in the nutrients in the food. Typical analysis is a representative average analysis of nutrients in the pet food.
Dog guardians have to make the feeding decisions for their dog, so the more information you can find about pet foods, the more informed your decision will be about your dog’s diet.

I found a line of what is the best dry dog food for my two Shelties. Check it out Wysong Pet Food here.
