Doggie Doors
No CommentsDog Pet Doors
I’ve always worked full time and had at least 2 dogs. Without a doggie door this was a problem when I got home late or had a sick dog and they had to stay in too long. It was really bad when I was away for the weekend and had friends come let the dogs out to go potty. I never knew how long the dogs had to stay inside. There were always accidents because someone needed to go potty.
Getting a doggie door was the best gift I ever gave to my dogs. It didn’t replace me letting them outside – it did give them the freedom to go potty when they needed to instead of holding it until I got home. And now I don’t have scratches on my doors from the dogs begging to be let out.
I installed
a dog door in a few hours. I looked at a full line of dog doors, including PetSafe Dog Doors, Staywell Dog Doors and the former line of Johnson Dog Doors. Each brand of dog door is easy to install in walls or doors with a few tools and the simple instructions provided. I even found doggie doors that will install in your sliding glass patio door.
By having a doggie door, my dogs enjoy their freedom while I don’t worry about how late I’ll be home to let them outside. On most doggie doors, you still have the option of locking your pet indoors or outdoors. Some particular models have options that you can set for your dog to ‘exit only’ or ‘enter only’ while you are away from home.
There are a variety of dog doors including metal or plastic, manual or electronic, even doggie doors for extreme weather. You can buy replacement flaps for the frequently used dog door. Doggie door sizes range from small to accommodate pets up to 12 lbs to extra large for dogs weighing up to 220 lbs.
Which size doggie door is right for my pet?
How to measure your pet:
Allow for your pet’s growth if it is not full grown.Step 1: Measure your pet from the top of the shoulders to the chest, just behind the front legs.
Step 2: This measurement is the cut out size that determines the size doggie door you need.
Step 3: Determine the material (metal vs. plastic) and color of doggie door.
